Introductory Teacher Training in Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE)

For those beginning their teacher training journey, or wishing to continue developing their skills if they have limited training and experience, or if it has been some time since they last undertook professional development courses.

The Instituto Cervantes London offers teacher training courses for Spanish teachers at all levels, both for those who wish to update and enhance their professional skills and for those who want to begin their journey in teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE).

Our programmes combine pedagogical, methodological, and linguistic training, providing practical tools to meet the challenges of an educational environment that is constantly evolving. The range of courses includes both face-to-face and online formats, supported by the Instituto Cervantes’ international network and the Teacher Training Centre in Alcalá de Henares, a leading institution in educational innovation and professional development.

We understand teaching as a communicative, practical, and learner-centred process. Our approach, aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), promotes the development of linguistic and intercultural competences through contemporary methodologies, reflective teaching practice, and continuous professional development.

The design of the Instituto Cervantes’ Spanish teacher training activities is based on a clear vision of what language teachers need to know and be able to do in order to perform effectively as teaching professionals. Teacher competence is understood as a complex form of professional expertise that is acquired and developed progressively, enabling educators to respond successfully to the challenges and situations they encounter throughout their professional practice.

Every year, more than 16,000 teachers from around the world choose the Instituto Cervantes to begin or advance their training in language teaching, making it an international benchmark in the field of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) pedagogy.
