DADIC Independent Teacher Preparation Course

This course is designed to develop the core competencies required for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE). Its approach combines theoretical content with strong practical training through the observation of classes taught by experienced professionals and the supervised delivery of teaching sessions. This makes it an excellent preparation programme for those wishing to begin a career in teaching Spanish as a foreign language.
The course is also particularly valuable for practising teachers who have teaching experience but limited specific training in ELE. It provides an opportunity to systematise existing knowledge, update teaching practices, and complete foundational training in the field.
In addition, the course offers suitable preparation for the Instituto Cervantes Teaching Accreditation Diploma Examination (DADIC) – Independent Level. This examination is independent of the course and requires separate registration. In London, we offer one examination session each year leading to the award of this diploma.
Module 1: 12 October 2026 to 11 March 2027
Module 2: 22 January to 5 March 2027
This course is intended for:
- Prospective teachers of Spanish who are at an early stage of their professional development and wish to take their first steps in the field of Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) teaching.
- Teachers in the first years of their careers who would like to teach with greater confidence and further develop their theoretical and practical knowledge.
- Professionals with a background in education or related fields who wish to acquire specialised training in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language.
To make the most of the course, participants are recommended to hold a university degree. In addition, applicants whose first language is not Spanish should have at least a C1 level of proficiency in Spanish.
Structure
The course comprises 130 hours of training delivered across two modules:
Module I: 12 October to 11 December 2026
Module II: 22 January to 5 March 2027
In-person and Online Learning
The course combines face-to-face and online activities to provide a flexible, dynamic and comprehensive learning experience.
Theory and Practice
The course is designed to develop the core competencies required for teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE) and offers a balanced combination of theoretical reflection and teaching practice.
Key practical components include classroom observations at Instituto Cervantes Munich and face-to-face workshops focused on action-oriented teaching approaches. The programme also incorporates micro-teaching simulations with peers, individual and collaborative lesson planning, the delivery of classes to Instituto Cervantes students, and subsequent analysis of participants' own teaching practice as a tool for reflection and professional development.
By the end of the course, trainee teachers will be able to:
- Effectively organise the learning of the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures, taking into account the specific teaching context and the needs of the learner group.
- Create opportunities for learning through action and interaction, enabling students to engage actively in meaningful communication.
- Provide learners with the tools and opportunities to communicate in Spanish in a variety of situations, while helping them analyse their own learning process and gradually develop greater autonomy.
- Justify and explain the decisions they make when selecting activities, materials and teaching techniques, applying established professional criteria and principles of good practice.
- Make the most of the opportunities offered throughout the course to develop their professional identity, learn collaboratively with peers and tutors, and continue their professional growth through the cognitive and emotional self-regulation strategies introduced during the programme.
The course addresses the following areas in an integrated and cross-curricular manner, both through theoretical foundations for action and through the conceptualisation of teaching practice.
A. Professional Development
Teacher identity and the professional context
Collaboration among professionals
Conceptualising practice and theory for action
Tools for cognitive and emotional self-regulation
B. Learning and Assessment

Other mediation tools
D. Language as a Tool for Communication

Resources for communication in a language and culture
The Instituto Cervantes Teaching Accreditation Diplomas (DADIC) enjoy official recognition and institutional support from the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports (MEFPD) and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
The DADIC qualification is the recognised credential for applications to the Language Assistants Programme, Bilingual Sections Programme, and Visiting Professorships at universities managed by the MEFPD. It is also recognised for applications to AECID Lectureships (Lectorados).
Holding a DADIC qualification can therefore enhance professional opportunities for teachers seeking to work in international educational programmes and institutions linked to the promotion of the Spanish language and culture abroad.

Yes. Upon successful completion of the course, Instituto Cervantes London will issue a Certificate of Completion in both Spanish and English.
Although this certificate is not equivalent to the Instituto Cervantes Teaching Accreditation Diploma (DADIC), which is awarded upon successfully passing the corresponding examination, it represents a valuable addition to your professional profile. It may also be used to demonstrate the training you have undertaken when applying for positions in educational institutions.
No. The course is designed so that most of the training can be completed online, making it accessible to teachers who live outside London or who require greater flexibility. However, it also includes a compulsory face-to-face component.
This in-person phase is an essential part of the programme, as it gives participants the opportunity to observe real classes, take part in supervised teaching practice, and experience authentic classroom situations first-hand.
This practical immersion is one of the course's greatest strengths and a fundamental element in the development of effective teaching competencies.
Yes. The course has been specifically designed to facilitate participation by teachers who live outside London. More than half of the workshops are delivered online, always on Fridays and/or Saturdays, providing greater flexibility for participants.
However, both Module I and Module II include a compulsory two-week intensive face-to-face period.
During Module I, participants carry out classroom observations, while Module II focuses on teaching practice. These are two essential components of the programme, providing invaluable practical experience in a real teaching environment and helping participants develop the skills and confidence required for effective language teaching.
To be awarded the Certificate of Completion, participants must attend at least 80% of the course.
However, attendance at the classroom observation sessions (Module I) and the teaching practice sessions (Module II) is compulsory in full, as these components constitute an essential part of the programme's practical training.
These face-to-face activities are a fundamental element of the course and play a key role in the development of the professional teaching skills required to teach Spanish as a Foreign Language (ELE).
Cancellations must be submitted in writing to cenlon@cervantes.es no later than five working days (Monday to Friday) before the start of the course. After this deadline, cancellations will no longer be accepted.
If a cancellation is made within the permitted period, the fees paid will be refunded, less a 10% administrative charge.
No refunds can be issued after the cancellation deadline has passed.
