Por qué APRENDER español

Why learn Spanish?

Sol, alegría, buena comida, cultura, deporte, tradición, simpatía y cercanía ¿Necesitas más razones para aprender español? ¿Qué te parecen estas siete?:

It is the official language of 21 countries across three continents, with more than 630 million speakers of whom 520 million have native-level competence.*

It is the third most widely spoken native language in the world, with nearly 460 million native speakers, after Mandarin Chinese and Hindi.*

It is also the second most-used language on social media and the third most-used language on the Internet.*

Spanish is the third most-used language at the United Nations, the fourth most-used language in the European Union, and an official language in many other international organisations and institutions.

Studies have shown that bilingual employees with Spanish language skills often earn higher salaries, with increases ranging from 5% to 20% compared with their monolingual peers. Companies are also more likely to offer promotions and bonuses to bilingual professionals.**

According to the British Council report Languages for the Future**, Spanish ranks first among the ten most important languages to study in the United Kingdom. It also occupies the top position among languages considered most important for diplomatic, educational and cultural purposes, and ranks second among those considered most valuable for economic purposes.

In the United Kingdom, Spanish is currently the most popular modern foreign language chosen at both A Level and GCSE examinations.****

In 2025, approximately 24.6 million people were learning Spanish as a foreign language in a variety of educational settings worldwide.*

Beyond its demographic and economic importance, the Spanish-speaking world offers extraordinary cultural heritage and natural diversity: there is an entire world waiting to be discovered.

Join us at Instituto Cervantes London in person or online to learn Spanish and explore the vibrant cultures of the Spanish-speaking world.

Levels

Our Spanish courses cover six progressive levels from A1 to C2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). These levels are divided into 30- or 60-hour modules, depending on the course format. The CEFR was developed to promote greater consistency and transparency in foreign language learning across European countries. Its objectives include enhancing mobility within Europe, facilitating the mutual recognition of language qualifications, and encouraging cooperation between educational institutions in different countries. The framework defines a series of proficiency levels that describe a learner’s ability to use a language in terms of communicative competence, productive skills (speaking and writing),  receptive skills (listening and reading) and language competence for specific purposes.

By following the CEFR, our courses provide a clear, internationally recognised pathway for language development, allowing students to monitor their progress and work towards widely recognised language qualifications.

No prior knowledge of Spanish is required to enrol in A1.1 level courses. To join any higher-level course, students must either be former Instituto Cervantes students or successfully complete our placement test .
