THE INSTITUTO CERVANTES IN NEW DELHI

The Instituto Cervantes is an institution established by Spain in 1991 to promote and teach the Spanish language and to disseminate the culture of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries. Its headquarters are located in Madrid and Alcalá de Henares (Madrid)—the birthplace of the writer Miguel de Cervantes—and it maintains a presence in 103 cities across 52 countries.

The work of the Instituto Cervantes is guided by representatives from the academic, cultural, and literary spheres of Spain and Spanish America. In India, it collaborates with museums, galleries, theaters, publishing houses, and other cultural institutions—both Indian and those from Spain and Latin America.

Our institution is also responsible for:

  • Organizing exams for the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) and issuing official certificates and diplomas to course participants.
  • Organizing Spanish courses for adults, children, and adolescents.
  • Organizing teacher training courses for Spanish instructors. Supporting Hispanists in their activities.
  • Fostering cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations.

Studying Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi is about more than just learning the language; it is an opportunity to discover the diverse cultures of the Hispanic world through our cultural activities and our library, which offers an extensive selection of Spanish and Latin American literature, films, music, magazines, and newspapers from the Spanish-speaking world.
