Biography of Name and Surname

juan Ramón Jiménez Mantecón. (Moguer, Huelva, December 23, 1881 – San Juan, Puerto Rico, May 29, 1958). Spanish poet and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature. He studied at the University of Seville but abandoned his studies in law and painting to devote himself to literature, influenced by Rubén Darío and the French Symbolists. He suffered several episodes of depressive neurosis and was hospitalized in France and Madrid; he eventually settled permanently in the latter city. He traveled to France and the United States, where he married Zenobia Camprubí in 1916. In 1936, upon the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War, he went into exile in the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. It was in Puerto Rico that he received news of being awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1956.

Juan Ramón Jiménez's poetic career unfolded in three stages:

Sensory stage (1898–1915): marked by the influence of Bécquer, Symbolism, and Modernism. This period is characterized by landscape descriptions, vague emotions, melancholy, music and color, and romantic memories and daydreams. It is an emotive and sentimental poetry in which the poet's sensitivity shines through the perfection of the formal structure.

Intellectual stage (1916–1936): discovery of the sea as a transcendent motif. The sea symbolizes life, solitude, joy, and the eternal present. A spiritual evolution also begins, leading him to seek transcendence. In his desire for salvation in the face of death, he strives to attain eternity through beauty and poetic refinement.

"True" stage (1937–1958): comprising all works written during his exile in the Americas.

Juan Ramón Jiménez’s poetic body of work is vast; throughout his life—driven by a constant desire for self-improvement—he would repudiate certain books while salvaging individual poems from them, almost always revising the latter in subsequent anthologies.

Zenobia Camprubí Aymar (Malgrat de Mar, Barcelona, August 31, 1887 – San Juan, Puerto Rico, October 28, 1956). A poet and translator, she married the Nobel Prize-winning author Juan Ramón Jiménez. She served as his muse and collaborator on translations of English-language poetry, most notably the works of Rabindranath Tagore, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and other English classics.

The library at the Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi is named after Zenobia Camprubí and Juan Ramón Jiménez
