WHAT DO WE DO?

The Cultural Programme of Instituto Cervantes Dublin

At Instituto Cervantes Dublin, we promote the cultural heritage, creative industries and contemporary culture of Spain and the Spanish-speaking world. Our aim is to bring this cultural richness closer to a diverse audience by promoting content in Spanish, in Spain’s co-official languages and in English.

We offer a wide range of formats including lectures, screenings, recitals, workshops and performances covering a variety of disciplines: visual arts and architecture, science and history, film and audiovisual media, literature and thought, music and the performing arts, as well as multidisciplinary projects.

To deliver this cultural programme, we build partnerships with Spanish, Irish and international public and private institutions and organisations, and take part in local festivals and celebrations.

VENUES AND ACCESS

Attending an Event

Cultural activities usually take place in the Auditorium, located on the ground floor, with a capacity of 100 people and wheelchair access, as well as at other venues in Dublin and elsewhere in Ireland.

Cultural activities are usually free of charge unless otherwise stated.

Submit Your Cultural Proposal

Instituto Cervantes is open to proposals from individuals, companies and institutions interested in contributing to our annual cultural programme in Ireland.

Our work focuses on Spanish and Hispanic American culture. Each proposal received will be assessed in line with the priority areas set out in the 2023–2026 Cultural Action, Libraries and Digital Culture Plan Europe Plan.

SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS

School Visits

A Spanish Language Immersion Experience for Secondary School Students

We offer secondary school students of Spanish a morning of linguistic and cultural immersion at our centre. Students will take part in games and interactive activities designed to spark their curiosity about the Spanish-speaking world and the Spanish language.

They consist of two activities, with several options for the school to choose from.

First Activity – Culture or Language Workshop

Choose one of the following three activities, designed to help students enjoy learning Spanish through culture and creativity while taking part in interactive activities:

Comic Workshop – One Inch, One Cat: Creating a Graphic Novel Inch by Inch

Artist Elida Maiques will share the techniques she used to create her graphic novel Every Inch a Cat and challenge participants to create their own one-page comic. She will also encourage students to ask for advice on drawing, page design, publishing and more. The workshop is accessible to students who do not draw — in fact, you do not need to know how to draw to make a comic!

Flamenco Dance Workshop – A Journey through the Music, Dance and Traditions of Spain

In this workshop with flamenco dancer Sandra Palomar, students will learn about Spanish dance and music in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Starting with movement exercises and dance steps, they will work towards performing a traditional sevillanas choreography. Students will take part in rhythm games and exercises focusing on laterality and coordination. Sandra will also introduce some of the most important festivals and celebrations in Spanish culture.

Spanish Language Workshop

An interactive Spanish language and Hispanic culture workshop in which students can build on and consolidate their previous knowledge. The content will be agreed in advance with the group’s teacher to ensure that it is suited to the students’ interests and level.

Second Activity – Scavenger Hunt

We invite you to choose one of the scavenger hunts we have prepared, both of which take place in our library.

Scavenger Hunt: “The History and Collections of the Library”

Students will explore the history and collections of the Dámaso Alonso Library. As they make their way through the activity, they will discover fascinating connections between Irish and Hispanic cultures. This promises to be a fun and educational experience, offering an insight into the cultural richness of the library while putting their problem-solving skills to the test in an interactive way.

Scavenger Hunt: “Inside Picasso’s World”

Students will immerse themselves in the extraordinary world of Pablo Picasso through this playful and immersive experience, where art meets mystery. The activity offers participants a unique opportunity to explore the life, work and secrets of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

Cultural Workshops

We offer you the opportunity to enjoy, learn and develop your creativity through workshops related to Spanish and Hispanic cultures. Take a look at the programme and sign up for your favourite activities.

Theatre Club

The Cervantes Dublin Theatre Club invites you to discover Man-up by Andrea Jiménez, a play that questions traditional models of masculinity through irony and absurd humour. Through work on the text, characters, voice and movement, you will develop your acting skills in a creative environment.

Flamenco for Adults

Discover and enjoy flamenco with dancer and choreographer Sandra Palomar. We offer two levels: Beginner – Ritmos de fiesta, a lively and accessible introduction to flamenco through tangos, rumbas and bulerías, with no previous experience required; and Continuation – Soleá con mantón, for those wishing to deepen their flamenco technique and expression by working on a soleá choreography with a shawl.

Flamenco para niños

Children aged 6 to 12 can discover flamenco in a fun and dynamic way through sevillanas and guajira with a fan. Through dance, music and rhythm games, they will learn basic steps and rhythms while developing coordination, expression, creativity and confidence.

No previous experience is required — just a willingness to dance and have fun. Come and discover flamenco!

Reading and Creative Writing

Explore new voices in Ibero-American literature with Voices from the Periphery, an eight-session reading and creative writing workshop led by writer Luciana De Mello. Drawing on authors who have challenged literary conventions, the workshop combines reading, discussion and analysis with writing exercises for those who want to explore their own voice.

A space to read, debate, create and discover new ways of seeing and telling the world.
