HISPANIC STUDIES

Departments

Irish university-level Hispanic Studies are organised around a network of Spanish departments at the country’s leading universities. These departments are actively engaged in teaching and research across a wide range of fields, including the Spanish language, literature, cultural studies, translation, linguistics, and relations between Ireland and the Hispanic world.

The main Spanish departments in the Republic of Ireland are based at the country’s most prestigious universities. Instituto Cervantes Dublin maintains close working relationships with these departments, focusing on the development and updating of Spanish language teaching methodologies, collaborative research projects, and jointly organised cultural activities.

Irish Hispanists

The historical relationship between Spain and Ireland has been particularly strong, inspiring great interest and passion among intellectuals in both countries. Today, the Irish continue to maintain a keen interest in the Hispanic world, and many scholars have devoted their work to exploring and deepening our shared historical and cultural ties. Irish Hispanism is now more interdisciplinary than ever, extending well beyond traditional philological studies to encompass a broad range of academic fields, including law, communication, business and the sciences.
