What is DELE?

Official Spanish Language Qualification

The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official qualifications that certify your level of competence and proficiency in Spanish. Awarded by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain’s Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, they provide official recognition of your Spanish language skills.

Instituto Cervantes manages every aspect of the DELE diplomas, from academic and administrative matters to financial management. All procedures are governed by Royal Decrees 1137/2002, 264/2008 and 1004/2015.

What does it involve?

The DELE exam tasks are designed to certify your level of Spanish comprehensively, using familiar contexts such as personal, public, educational and professional situations.

The aim is to reflect how you use Spanish in real-life contexts.

Speak Spanish Your Way: All Varieties Are Welcome

From level B1 onwards, our comprehension tests reflect the richness and diversity of Spanish, including its main varieties. In the speaking tests, there is no need to worry about your accent or the variety of Spanish you use: all ways of speaking Spanish are equally valid and welcome.

These tests may also be recorded to help ensure both quality and transparency throughout the assessment process.

Beginner

The DELE A1 Diploma is your opportunity to demonstrate that you have the basic language skills needed to communicate in Spanish. This diploma certifies that you are able to:

Understand and use common everyday expressions used throughout the Spanish-speaking world, especially those needed to meet immediate needs.
Ask for and give basic personal information, such as details about yourself or your daily life.
Interact in a simple way with native speakers, provided they speak slowly and clearly and are willing to help.

Básico / Inicial

The DELE A2 Spanish Language Diploma certifies that you have the language skills needed to communicate in Spanish in everyday situations and familiar contexts. This diploma confirms that you can:

Understand and use frequently used expressions related to areas of immediate relevance, such as basic personal and family information, shopping, places of interest and work-related activities.
Take part in simple, direct conversations on familiar or everyday topics. You can also describe your past and aspects of your surroundings in simple terms.
Meet immediate communication needs in everyday situations.

How to Register

Acceder a todos los proyectos

It is possible to register for any DELE examination without being enrolled in a Spanish language course or a DELE exam preparation course.

Individual Registration

You can register directly through our online store and pay by credit card.

Discount: If you are enrolled in a course at Instituto Cervantes Dublin at the time of registration, or if you have previously taken a DELE exam, you can benefit from a 30% loyalty discount. To apply the discount, simply tick the relevant box before adding the product to your basket.
Once you have completed your registration, you will receive an electronic notification with your registration receipt. A few weeks before the exam, we will also send you an email with the official exam notice, including the venue, date and time of the tests.

Registration for Groups and Schools

To register groups of 10 or more students from schools, secondary schools or other institutions, the following documentation must be sent by email to cendub@cervantes.es:

For each candidate, the completed registration application form, which can be downloaded below.
The registration data form, completed electronically (not by hand).

Discount: Candidates whose group registration is arranged through the educational institution where they are studying can benefit from a 25% discount on the registration fee.
The registration period for groups closes one week before the general registration deadline. Only one payment per group will be accepted, and it must be made by bank transfer. Payment must be received within the registration period; registration cannot be completed if the payment is not received on time.

Our guided preparation will help you gain a thorough understanding of the different tasks, practise effective strategies and improve your performance on exam day.

In addition, students enrolled in our DELE preparation courses receive a 30% discount on the official exam registration fee.

Our Library, located on the first floor, has a wide range of resources to help you prepare for the DELE exams. When registering for an exam, candidates are entitled to a free library card for four months.

These materials are therefore available to candidates both for consultation in the Library and for borrowing.
