The Instituto Cervantes in Dublin traces its origins to the Instituto Cultural Español, founded in 1971 and officially inaugurated on 11 February 1974. In 1992, it became part of the Instituto Cervantes network and has since worked to promote the teaching of Spanish and Spain’s co-official languages, raise awareness of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries, and strengthen cultural and educational ties between Spain and Ireland.
