The Instituto Cervantes Chicago conversation courses are aimed at students who wish to develop their conversational skills. These courses have two main objectives:

• To enable students to communicate effectively in real-life situations they may encounter in different Spanish-speaking countries and to participate in authentic conversations with native speakers.
• To achieve the desired level of fluency according to the stage of learning in which they are currently.

This is achieved through group discussions on current topics or role-play activities based on everyday situations. These courses are not explicitly focused on grammar, although they do encourage the use and practice of language structures appropriate to each level. No textbook is used; instead, a wide variety of materials and resources are employed (written texts, newspapers, audio recordings, videos, etc.).

Conversation courses are offered at four levels:

• Conversation A2: for students who have completed level A2.4.
• Conversation B1: for students who have completed level B1.4.
• Conversation B2: for students who have completed level B2.6.
• Conversation C1: for students who have completed level C1.6.

If you have never studied at the Instituto Cervantes or if your last course was more than a year ago, you will need to take a placement test before enrolling in a conversation course.
