GABRIELA MISTRAL LIBRARY SERVICES
Access to the library and on‑site consultation of the collections is free of charge. In the reading room, users can study and access the Internet (Wi‑Fi), as well as the library catalogue and collections, including films, music and periodicals.
To borrow materials from the library, listen to or download audiobooks, or consult electronic resources, a valid library card is required.
The library responds to all enquiries related to the Spanish language and the culture of Spain and Latin America.
The international interlibrary loan service allows users to consult documents held by other Spanish libraries at the Instituto Cervantes Library.
Virtual visits to the library and its electronic resources can be arranged by appointment by contacting bibsyd@cervantes.es.
Borrowing service
- Free for Instituto Cervantes students during their course.
- General public: AU$75 per year (AU$30 for three months).
- Electronic library user: €14 per year (online purchase from Spain).
General Public
- Books: up to 10 items for 8 weeks (renewable).
- Videos and DVDs: up to 10 items for 4 weeks (renewable).
- Loan dictionaries and magazines: up to 4 items for 4 weeks (not renewable).
- ELE materials: up to 10 items for 8 weeks (renewable).
- Full access to the electronic library.
Instituto Cervantes Students
- Course textbook: one copy for the duration of the course (NOT renewable).
- Books: up to 10 items for 8 weeks (renewable).
- Videos and DVDs: up to 10 items for 4 weeks (renewable).
- Loan dictionaries and magazines: up to 4 items for 4 weeks (not renewable).
- ELE materials: up to 10 items for 8 weeks (renewable).
- Full access to the electronic library.
- Loans of books, magazines and CDs may be renewed for the same loan period, provided that the item has not been reserved by another user.
- The special loan of the course textbook for Instituto Cervantes students CANNOT be renewed and must be returned at the end of the course.
- Renewals and reservations can be made at the library, through the online catalogue, or by email: bibsyd@cervantes.es.
- Only items that are currently on loan to another user may be reserved.
Each user may place a maximum of three reservations. - Once the library receives the reserved item, the library will contact the user to notify them.
- AU$0.25 fine per item per day, up to a maximum of AU$15 per item.
- After 30 days overdue, the library card will be cancelled.
Failure to comply with loan deadlines will result in penalties.

Interlibrary loan and document delivery are services that allow users of our library to consult or borrow materials, or to receive photocopies of documents, from Spanish libraries or from any of the Instituto Cervantes libraries worldwide.

We apply the recommendations of the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA), which can be summarised as follows:
- Any user holding a valid library card may use this service.
- The user declares that the requested document is for research or study purposes.
- The loan period is determined by the lending library; the most common period is one month.
- Service costs (fees) and loan conditions (number of documents requested, photocopies, etc.) will be those established by the library supplying the documents.
- If the loan is processed outside the Instituto Cervantes Libraries Network (RBIC), the costs of shipping and return will be borne by the applicant.
The reading room offers free Wi‑Fi Internet access for all users who wish to work on their own laptops.
Internet access is also available via library tablets with a valid library card.
