Levels

The courses are offered at 6 levels, from A1 to C2, which are divided into 60-hour modules. The level divisions correspond to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The CEFR aims to achieve greater uniformity and transparency among EU member states in the study of foreign languages. This serves to increase mobility among member countries, facilitate the mutual recognition of language certificates, and promote cooperation among educational institutions in different countries. The CEFR defines levels that assess linguistic ability in the areas of communicative competence, active and receptive skills, and language proficiency for specific purposes.

No prior knowledge of Spanish is required to enroll in A1.1-level courses. To enroll in courses at other levels, you must be a former student or pass the placement test.

They can communicate at a basic level as long as the person they are speaking with speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to cooperate. PLACEMENT TEST

We recommend taking a placement test if the student has had any prior exposure to the language. Only those with prior knowledge of Spanish and those who have studied Spanish with us but have since stopped should take the placement test to determine the appropriate level for enrollment. Under no circumstances may the placement test be used to skip a level.

The oral test lasts about 20 minutes.

To sign up for the placement test, register here: placement test

The test results are valid only for enrollment purposes at the Instituto Cervantes to determine the level of students with prior knowledge of Spanish. They are not valid for certifying a student’s level of Spanish.
