Special Spanish Courses

Throughout the year, and depending on demand, the Instituto Cervantes offers a diverse range of special Spanish language courses.

These courses are designed to address specific goals outside of the general Spanish curriculum. They are organized into three categories based on their objectives:
E1. Language courses for specific purposes
E2. Language courses with targeted objectives
E3. Culture and civilization courses

All of these courses are taught in Spanish and are designed to:

  • Teach Spanish for specific professional or academic needs (e.g., Spanish for children and adolescents, business, medicine, etc.).
  • Reinforce and improve specific aspects of the Spanish language (e.g., writing, reading, grammar, DELE exam preparation, etc.).
  • Familiarize students with Spanish and Latin American culture.

These classes have a maximum of 15 students and are conducted exclusively in Spanish.

The courses currently on offer are as follows:

Conversation

The special conversation courses at the Instituto Cervantes de Manila are designed for students who wish to develop their conversational proficiency. These courses have two main objectives:

  • To enable students to navigate communicative situations they might encounter in various Spanish-speaking countries and to engage in real-life conversations with native speakers.
  • To achieve a level of fluency appropriate to the student's current stage of learning.

This is accomplished through group discussions on current topics or by acting out everyday scenarios using role-play activities. While these courses do not explicitly focus on teaching grammar, they do encourage the practice of linguistic elements relevant to the student's specific level. No single textbook is used; instead, a wide variety of materials and resources—such as written texts, newspapers, audio recordings, and videos—are incorporated.

Conversation courses are offered at four levels:

  • Conversation A2: For students who have completed level A2.3.
  • Conversation B1: For students who have completed level B1.3.
  • Conversation B2: For students who have completed level B2.4.
  • Conversation C1: For students who have completed level C1.4.

If you have never studied at the Instituto Cervantes, or if your last course was more than a year ago, you will need to take a placement test before enrolling in a conversation course.
