ABOUT Instituto Cervantes

Instituto Cervantes is the institution created by Spain in 1991 to promote and teach Spanish, and to disseminate the culture of Spain and Spanish-speaking countries. The institution’s headquarters are located in Madrid and in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid), the birthplace of the writer Miguel de Cervantes. It is also present in 103 cities across 52 countries.

The work of Instituto Cervantes is guided by representatives from the academic, cultural, and literary worlds of Spain and Latin America. In Lebanon, it collaborates with museums, galleries, theatres, publishers, and other Iebanese cultural institutions, as well as Spanish and Latin American ones.

Our institution is also responsible for:

• Organizing examinations for the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE), as well as issuing official certificates and diplomas for participants in our courses.
• Organizing Spanish language courses.
• Organizing training courses for teachers of Spanish.
• Supporting Hispanic studies scholars in their activities.
• Promoting cultural activities in collaboration with other organizations.
