Official Spanish certification

The DELE Spanish Diplomas are official qualifications that certify your level of competence and proficiency in Spanish. Awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training, they are the perfect credential to demonstrate your skills in the language.

What makes DELE special?

The Instituto Cervantes manages all aspects of the DELE, from the academic and administrative components to financial management. All of this is carried out in accordance with Royal Decrees 1137/2002, 264/2008, and 1004/2015..

THE EXAM

What does it consist of?

The DELE exams are designed to certify your level of Spanish in a comprehensive way and in contexts that are familiar to you, such as personal, public, educational, or professional settings.

What is the goal? To reflect how you use the language in real-life situations.

Speak Spanish your way: all varieties are welcome.

From level B1 onwards, our comprehension tests reflect the richness and diversity of Spanish, including its main varieties. In the speaking tests, don’t worry about the accent or variety you use! All forms of expressing yourself in Spanish are equally valid and welcome.

In addition, these tests may be recorded to ensure both quality and transparency in the process.

Principiante

The Diploma de Español Level A1 is your gateway to demonstrating that you have the basic language skills needed to get by in Spanish. This diploma certifies that you are able to:

Understand and use frequent everyday expressions used anywhere in the Spanish-speaking world, ideal for meeting immediate needs.
Ask for and give basic personal information, such as details about yourself or your daily life.
Interact in a basic way with native speakers, provided they speak slowly and clearly and are willing to help you.

Básico / Inicial

El Diploma de Español Nivel A2 avala que tienes la capacidad necesaria para desenvolverte en español en situaciones cotidianas y cercanas a tu entorno. Este diploma certifica que puedes:

Comprender y utilizar expresiones frecuentes relacionadas con áreas relevantes para ti, como información básica sobre ti y tu familia, compras, lugares de interés o actividades laborales.
Participar en intercambios comunicativos sencillos y directos, abordando temas conocidos o habituales. También puedes describir en términos básicos tu pasado y aspectos de tu entorno.
Satisfacer necesidades inmediatas de comunicación en contextos cotidianos.

How to register

Acceder a todos los proyectos

Registering for the DELE exams is a straightforward process, as long as you follow the instructions and meet the established deadlines. You can do so in one of two ways:

Online: If you are taking the exam in Spain (except for school-level exams), complete your registration through this portal.
At an examination center: If you are outside Spain or registering for school-level exams, complete the process at an examination center recognized by the Instituto Cervantes.

Documentation required for registration

To complete your registration, you will need a unique and active email address, as well as the following documents:

Registration receipt.
Original passport or official photo identification document.
For DELE A2 candidates in Spain: original TIE (Foreigner Identity Card) and passport. EU citizens may present either the Residence Card of a Family Member of an EU Citizen or their original national identity card.
The exam notification sent by the examination center where you registered.
